I am going to state the obvious:
It is hot here.
Incredibly hot.
This morning when I left the gym at 6:15 AM it was 88 degrees. Seriously?
I told the husband last night that the heat is starting to get to people. Sure local meteorologists are getting a kick out of counting the number of days we have been at or over 100 degrees (I believe we are on Day 13), but the thrill of the heat is gone for the rest of the general population.
Everywhere I have gone this week, there has been a dull roar and a sense of tension among the people. People want to escape their homes in order to prevent having to run their AC units. Due to the heat, everyone is heading to the same air-conditioned places or cooling-off spots: the public pool, library story time, fast food play places, local retail stores.
Everyone is hot and cranky and ready to start a revolt.
Unless they spontaneously burst into flames first.
Entertaining the children in this heat has started to become quite the challenge. They have so much energy to burn yet we can’t go outside after 7am without worry of heat stroke. The pools are crowded and indoor play places (a la bounce house establishments) are still off-limits for awhile as Isaac’s arm begins to heal.
For some reason, neither child wants to sit quietly and color all day.
The excitement that broke out over the arrival of a package bearing bubble wrap was both sad and disturbing.
I am going to be honest and say that I am over the whole summer thing and ready to move onto another season.
Anyone else ready to bid summer good-bye and welcome in Fall?
Question: How are you entertaining the children during this heat wave?

Well, it’s about 6 pm here and the thermometer says 63 degrees outside, which is the high for today. Whatever it is you do in the summer, that’s what we do in the winter. However, winter here lasts much, much longer than your extreme season, right? Ugh. Maybe you’ll have fall soon!!
